Maxwell D. Potter

Max represents clients in complex matters involving tax law, trusts and estates. 

Before joining Smith Hulsey, he clerked at a tax and estate planning law firm, completed an in-house counsel externship with the nation’s leading medical spa and interned at a legal aid nonprofit in the Tampa area. Working at the nonprofit’s low-income tax clinic, Max found fulfillment in helping others improve their financial security, and it’s where he was first inspired to pursue a career in tax law.

After receiving his law degree from Stetson University, Max went on to obtain a master of laws in taxation from the University of Florida. He balanced part-time work throughout law school, honing his time management skills and giving him a better appreciation for how legal concepts apply to real-world cases. He completed his undergraduate degree at Florida State University.

Max grew up in Ponte Vedra Beach and enjoys visiting area beaches when he’s not at the office. In his free time, you can likely find him doing something active outdoors or cheering on the Jaguars and FSU sports teams.
